The young female wiped
the sweat off her forehead as she took a deep breath. The stack of firewood was
piled up against the hut and even though the sun had already set, the heat on
the island was overwhelming. She looked at the hut and sighed, walking toward
the edge of the shore. The warm water soon covered her feet and she sat on the
sand, falling back so she can get a glimpse of the stars overhead.
Many thoughts began to
race across her mind, particularly a certain goblin she had met in Booty Bay.
He was quiet, like her, and he had been charming. She had missed his name, but
he promised that he would be there, fishing to make a living.
A smile crept across
her lips and she giggled silently. She could imagine him fishing on the dock as
the darkness settled over the land. For a moment, she wanted to get the rowboat
and make her way to Booty Bay. She imagined sitting next to him, talking about
fish or simply staring at him work, admiring how he enjoyed what he did.
Afterward, they would hold hands as they walked down the beach and listen to
the waves crash onto the shore.
Her tummy tickled a
little as she thought of stealing a kiss from this fisherman. She exhaled
loudly and closed her eyes. She wanted to see him again. She had to. He was
perfect for her.
“Pina! Where joo be, stupid goblin?”
The goblin’s eyes
slowly opened and her smile turned into a frown. Every single image faded away
like smoke. She wanted to hold on to at least one of her daydreams, but it
dissipated into nothing. She lifted her head, sand grains falling back onto the
beach and she looked back at the hut. Her hand fell upon her heart and she
cried a single tear as she glanced at the bright lights of Booty Bay across the
water. She gazed down for a moment. Who was she kidding? Someone like him would
probably be with someone already. Someone who wasn’t doomed to be a troll’s
slave.
Pina shook the excess
sand off her pigtails as she walked toward the hut. The troll woman glared at
her with her hands firmly placed on her shoulders. “Joo stupid goblin.”
“I’m sorry, Tia. What did I do?”
The troll threw her
hands up and turned around, marching back into the hut. “Joo get ‘ere now!”
Pina’s blue eyes
glanced behind her once more, desiring for a moment of escape. Her ears wilted
and she dragged her feet into the hut, her left hand tugging at the shark tooth
pierced into her ear.
“I say now!”
The goblin closed the hut
door behind her.
