The sun hit the small island, making sure
there was no spot of shade under the canopy of trees for at least a while. The
scorching heat was enough to keep even the panthers hidden. Jaguero Isle
sizzled with the high sun, hiding all signs of life, except for the rising
smoke emerging from a small hut at the edge of the isle.
A small
goblin wiped the sweat off his head and leaned against the hut, gazing up at
the small window above him. He longed to go inside and avoid the sweltering
heat, but he was forbidden for the time being. He turned around and grabbed the
edge of the window, rising on his toes to try and gaze inside. He saw her; a troll
with pink braids sitting at the table, staring at the rising smoke from the
makeshift chimney in the hut. His stomach grumbled and dared to clear his
throat.
“Don
botha me,” the female troll seemed to growl.
“B-but…I’m hungry and it’s hot out here.” The goblin’s ears wilted all
the way down. The troll said nothing more and he gave up, falling away from the
window and sitting against the hut, under the thin strip of shade the hut’s
roof was offering.
Inside
the caldron on the fire emitted more smoke and the troll simply stared, gazing
at what anyone would see as insignificant, but to her, the smoke had everything
she wanted to see. A jungle, a bay city, a pirate.
“I be
seein’ joo, Cristianno,” she growled softly, a sinister smile spreading across
her lips, accented by her small tusks. Her gray eyes searched the smoke. “Joo
have no seen me jet.” She knew what the pirate was going to ask her and as much
as she was furious, rejoining the crew was not a bad idea. It would be her
chance to get him back for the humiliation that he put her through.
“I be joinin’
joo, pirate, but we be seein’ ‘ow joo do afta I get through wit joo.” She
chuckled under her breath and waved her hand. The smoke stopped rising and the
caldron stopped boiling as the fire went out. The troll grabbed a shark tooth
from the table and lifted up to her eyes. After cackling, she slammed it
against the table and watched it crack.
“Joo don tell
Tia’Zula wat ta do, Cristianno. Tia’Zula tell joo.” She glared at the darkened
caldron. “And I tell joo dat joor time is about ta end.”
