The female goblin walked into the hut and closed the door behind her. She removed her hood and cloak, hanging it near the door. The scent of burning incense was strong in the air and and she knew that her mistress was meditating. She sighed and sat at the table, waiting until the troll moved or acknowledged her. There was a bowl, a tea mug, and a bloodied towel on the table and she shook her head. Almost immediately, she jumped off the chair and began to clean up the mess on the table. She took some water and manipulated to spray onto the mug and bowl. She was getting strong and as long as she did as her mistress told her, Pina continued to learn the ways of the elements, although, as much as her mistress would want her to learn the darker side, the voodoo, Pina did not. That was something she refused to learn. It took her a while to ignore her mistress’ commands, but eventually, she blocked out the words she refused to hear. She was a failure to her mistress, but Pina continued to gather souls for her, so she was still useful.
Once she finished cleaning the dishes, she turned around and noticed that the troll was no longer kneeling in front of her dark altar. Pina looked around cautiously, taking slow steps toward the place she once knelt and jumped when she heard the troll’s voice behind her. “Did goo eat jet?” The goblin caught her breath and exhaled, shaking her head. “Der be stew on da fire outside.” The troll walked around and sat at the table, a crystal placed in front of her.
Pina nodded and grabbed a wooden bowl before stepping outside. The distant sound of animals were familiar to her, as well as the gentle sound of the waves crashing against the shore. She really enjoyed being outside, especially if she was able to see her pet crab, which thankfully, the troll had not killed yet. She returned inside and sat at the table as well. She lifted a spoonful of stew to her mouth and said, “Whatcha doing?”
“Lookin’ fo da pirate.”
Pina shook her head, “My apologies, Tia, but, why do you insist on getting his heart? What is so special about him?”
Tia lifted her eyes off the crystal and glared at Pina. The goblin was used to her glares, so it didn’t faze her. “ ‘Ee got away, Pina. No one gets away from Tia’Zula.”
“But going as far as Pandaria to get him? I mean, why bother? He got away. Just forget him.” Several years ago, she would never have dared to speak to her this way. Now, it just didn’t matter. She welcomed death. If Tia was going to kill her, she would be doing her a favor. Being away from her family for so long and them thinking she was dead was not something that she appreciated.
“Joo ‘ave much ta learn, Pina. Ta be powerful means joo must show others joo no take no for answers.” The troll returned her eyes to the crystal and continued to search. However, Pina was not convinced at all and Tia saw this. “ ‘Ee be brought back from da dead wit help from da spirits. Da deal was fo’ ‘im ta die and give me ‘is ‘eart. Dat pirate still be alive.”
“So, does he know of this deal?” Pina reached for an apple and listened to Tia.
“ “Ee does not need to know!”
“I would think so. I mean, maybe he would just give himself in if he did.” This caused Tia to break out in a thunderous fit of laughter, but Pina could not see what was so funny at all.
“Tell ‘im? Pina, joo brainless fool. We never will see da Captain like dat.” Tia tapped on her crystal and said, “Once ‘ee is mine, I will go collect da others dat owe me.”
Pina finished her stew and wiped her mouth. “Why not collect those first?” Tia was about to speak but she stopped. The goblin had a point.
“Shut up. Finish eatin’.” She pushed a goblet in front of Pina and smiled darkly. “And drink…”
Pina looked at her curiously, but Tia was gazing at her eagerly, waiting for Pina to take that drink. The goblin had nothing to lose at this point and she wished that the cup was filled with poison. She threw the drink back, swallowing every drop without thinking about it or tasting it, until the end, when she had a metallic and bitter flavor, along with the thickness of the liquid. She cringed and grimaced. “What was that?”
Tia stared at her, smiling brightly. “'Ow joo feel?”
Pina shrugged and just as Tia was starting to look disappointed, Pina shrieked and grabbed her stomach. She was so weakened that she fell off the chair and onto the floor. Tia rose off her chair and walked around the table, staring intently at the tortured goblin. However, Pina was hoping that this was her end. For a while, she continued to writhe in pain until it suddenly stopped. Tia took a few steps closer, waiting to see the goblin breathe. She knelt beside the little body, the bones hanging from her waist rattling as she inched closer to her. Suddenly, Pina gasped and coughed, bringing a smile to Tia’s face. “ 'Ow joo now?”
Pina sat up and looked at Tia. “What…what did you do?” she asked softly, her body trembling. She didn’t feel quite like herself, but nothing was happening physically either.
“I give joo new powers. I need someone I can be trustin’ to ‘elp me wit my gatherins. Wit da propa instruction, dat I will get joo, joo will be unstoppable.” Tia helped Pina rise and said, “Joo be beyond spirits now, Pina.” The goblin’s eyes looked up at the witch with fear. She didn’t want to hear her next words, but she felt her blood burning within her and she knew. She knew it wasn’t going to be good, especially by the way Tia was laughing.
“Joo be consumed by demons now.”
