The night stars looked down at him as he walked on the deck of his ship, the winds pushing forward. With everyone asleep, Cris knew he could enjoy the silence of the night and the lullaby created by the sea surrounding him. The nights were practically endless, especially with the constant memories picking at his brain. The tremors that once accompanied those memories were gone, thanks to his beloved, but the memories remained; memories that she once held, including the love for him, the pain she suffered for him, and the need for him. However, Cris wasn’t fazed by her former emotions anymore. He simply wouldn’t let himself.
“How are you feeling now…Eternal?”
Instantly, Cris turned around and saw Rain, dressed in white and wearing a wicked smile on her lips. For now, she was all Cris saw. His brain began to process the woman in front of him and the situation. “This is not real…this is not real…”
“Denying me again? You always were a coward.”
“Go away. You’re not real.”
“Oh, I’m very real.” She began to walk toward him and Cris looked at her.
“You can’t speak.”
Rain stopped and chuckled. “That’s why you’re hearing her.” She gestured toward Cris and before he turned to see if anyone was behind him, he felt his arms pulled back.
Wincing, he turned and glared at Rain, ignoring the pain in his arm and hand. “I see. So you need that bitch to speak for you.” Hail, Rain’s other half, pulled back on his arms.
Wincing, he turned and glared at Rain, ignoring the pain in his arm and hand. “I see. So you need that bitch to speak for you.” Hail, Rain’s other half, pulled back on his arms.
“Language, dear. You were always so vulgar. How I put up with you I have no idea.” She began to walk toward Cris once more. Each step was crisp and clear. This had to be real and Cris felt helpless.
“What the fuck do you want?”
“I just came to finish the job, love. It’s time to end this once and for all.”
“Take your bloody memories back and get lost, Rain. I never want to see your face again.”
The blonde woman before him smiled sweetly and reached out to touch his face. “Well, then you’re in luck. You will never see my face again.”
“You can start by leaving now.”
“Oh, we will, but first, let us finish what we started.” Her slender fingers traced along his face and toward his neck. “Where’s your bodyguard now? Is she around to save you?”
Cris looked up. In his mind, he called out for Niela, to the point of begging for her to be there, but he knew she wasn’t going to be around. He gasped as Rain touched his scar on his neck, his body tensing immediately.
“Who would have thought that your weakness is always out in the open for anyone to use against you?” Rain chuckled, Hail’s voice growing louder as the chuckle began to pierce his ears.
“Go away,” Cris growled.
“Patience, my love. We’re almost done.” Rain’s fingers followed the scar all the way to the front of his neck, stopping at his large, magical shark tooth. Cris glared at her, anticipating her next move. “I should have done this when I had the chance.”
“Rain, please don’t…”
“Beg again, Cristianno. I want to hear it.”
“Rain…”
She leaned toward him and just as her lips neared his, she said, “Goodbye, Cristianno.” Cris’ eyes widened when her hand tugged at his neck, taking the shark tooth with her. Moving backwards, he saw her eyes gleam with madness as she looked down at the tooth in her hand. The death knight Hail let go of his arms and he fell to his knees. Blood fell down his chest, moistening his shirt with the red liquid that continued to run down from his neck.
“What…have you done,” Cris whispered.
“What I should have done a long time ago, Cristianno. End my suffering.”
The stars and sea surrounding him began to blur as Cris collapsed onto the deck. Everything spun quickly and he heard Rain’s laughter through Hail. “Niela,” he whispered, “I’m sorry, my love. I’m sorry.” His eyes began to close and the memories that belonged to Rain were now gone, replaced with his own memories of the short-lived relationship he had with Niela.
“Goodnight, Captain,” he heard before everything went black.
Three short gasps and he finally opened his eyes, sitting up in his bed, his bandaged hand reaching for the shark tooth. It was still there. Cris breathed heavily, beads of sweat falling down his face, neck and bare chest. A shuffle beside him reminded him where he was and who was with him.
“What’s wrong?” the female’s voice asked. Her arm reached over to him, a hand placed along his chest. “Your heart’s beating fast.”
“Just…just a dream, Laer. Go back to sleep.”
Laerchel gave a sleepy chuckle, “Dreamed that your girlfriend found us together?”
“We’re just sleeping, Laer, not fucking.”
“Still.”
Cris took a deep breath and plopped back down onto the pillow. Laerchel held him and kissed his shoulder. “I dreamed that Rain tried to kill me and succeeded.”
“Move on, Cris.”
“I’m trying.” His thoughts began to wander elsewhere, to Silvermoon, to where his heart remained. “I can’t wait to go back to Silvermoon.”
Laerchel chuckled once more. “You’re so whipped.”
“Laer, I just want—“ Laerchel covered his mouth with her hand and shushed him.
“Sleep. We’ll be back soon.” Her hand slithered from his lips back to his chest, caressing him gently. The touch began to lull him and his eyes began to close.
“I need her,” he whispered as he leaned his head against her blonde hair, trying hard to go back to sleep and hoping that the terrors would stay away as far as possible.
