I’m
getting married.
Those were the words he was
supposed to tell her, and yet, he couldn’t. He just couldn’t, especially after
what she had told him when he swore he wouldn’t betray her.
It’s too late for that…
Cristianno rode on Davy, his
devilsaur, through Eversong Woods, his face hidden from the world. He was
heading back to Alaia, the one who had picked up the pieces of his broken
heart. For a moment, he feared that meeting with Niela would be a mistake, but
after sensing the animosity from her, he simply released her. She no longer
belonged to him. What bothered him the most was that he sensed that she
belonged to her job and he hated that. He knew whom he was getting involved
with and the complications involved, but he always longed to be with Niela, his
wife. Just his wife. Not the assassin nor the two-faced spy, but the woman he
had fallen in love with.
And he did love her. He loved her
with all the dreams he had for the world around them, but it was never to be.
She had other priorities, and Cristianno was weak in the arms of other women.
No, not other women. Just one. The
one who gave up her everything to be with him.
The devilsaur wove around the
trees, rushing by curious bystanders who curiously watched this creature out of
his habitat. Cristianno maneuvered the reigns a bit, but he hardly paid any attention
to where he was going. Instead, his mind and soul were back at the estate,
watching Niela’s tome fly across the room after showing his own writing
I love you.
“Those
words were for you,” Cristianno responded.
“No
one seemed to think so.”
“I
don’t care what others think. Those words were for you.” The devilsaur made a
sharp right and Cris blinked, bringing him back to the present for a brief
moment, but he returned back to his reveries.
Niela. She was different in his
eyes. He hadn’t noticed how long her hair had grown. He sighed and realized
that he hadn’t seen much of her in a long while, of course he hadn’t noticed
her hair. He shook his head and took the reigns again, forcing Davy to run
faster. He needed to head back to Alaia. He didn’t want to miss anything with
her. He feared the tight grasp he was forming around her. The last time he was
so defensive about someone and so needy was when he was with Rain, and she
quickly ran off with someone else, breaking Cris.
“No,
she’s different,” he whispered against the winds. The journey through Eversong
woods was a short one, but to him, it felt like an eternity. The farther he
rode from the estate, the more he realized that he knew it from the beginning:
His relationship with Niela was always destined to be doomed, they simply
didn’t want to accept it, but they knew it was.
He
reached the small cottage on the far edge of Eversong and as he slid off the
giant lizard, he noticed the door open. His blue-green eyes, the only part of
his face exposed, widened as he smiled beneath the cloth when Alaia appeared at
the doorway. Her smile was warm and welcoming. Almost immediately, he wrapped
his arms around her and she lowered the hood on his head, exposing his short
blonde hair.
“I’m
home,” he whispered.
The
ship he had stolen from the Southsea pirates was gone and probably surrounded by
Horde forces as they guarded the decaying body of “Captain Seawolf.” Ziggly was
probably back in Bilgewater Harbor, enjoying his freedom and scouting out new
ships, and Gerty was probably back in Ironforge.
Cristianno
had to figure out a new identity for himself before he went back out to sea. He
was ready to announce to those he respected in the tome that Seawolf was dead,
but his absence would say it well enough. Besides, the last thing he needed was assholes mocking him and writing out obscenities. It was enough to remain silent. Seawolf was dead.
Cristianno
once more cheated death and started another chapter of his life. He prayed to
all the spirits that this time, it was his turn to finally be happy. He kissed Alaia’s forehead
and they both walked into the cottage. Tomorrow would be the beginning of his
new life.
Poor Cris. He's had so many problems with women...Though I can say from a point of knowledge that at least one of them didn't mean it. >.>
ReplyDeleteI hope he and Alaia can be happy for a long time to come!
