The sun had set and the woman
wearing a rather simple blue dress and carrying a set of clothes in her hand
walked along the beach, hoping to see a path back to a village or some sort of
shelter for the night. She let her blonde hair go from its tight twist and it
cascaded down her back. As she dried her hair, she thought about the dinner she
had at a former lover’s home. She couldn’t help but smirk as she remembered his
wife and those visiting the home and how she wished to have made a bigger
impact, but that smirk faded and she only had a faint, painful smile that
reminded her that she had lost the one man she was truly loved. His wife was
pregnant and she understood why her former lover was irritated by her presence.
With
a sigh, Brisa moved a chunk of blonde hair away from her face and behind her
ear. As much as it hurt her to have lost her Wolf, she realized that after
seeing him, and now his growing family, that she had to be even more loyal to
him. He never hurt her, really. He always told her that he was never going to
take her away. She realized this, but she always continued to dream. No, she thought, I
will continue to be loyal to him. As long as he needs me.
She
continued to walk, but she heard noises around her. There was no intent to
stop, especially since she wasn’t anywhere near any shelter. She placed her hand
in the pile of clothes she held and shifted her eyes cautiously from side to
side.
“Hey,
sexy,” a voice called out to her. It was a familiar voice, melodic with a
certain roughness to it. It was nothing like Wolf’s voice. He had a soft,
alluring timber to him. No, this one was far from Wolf. She stopped, rolled her
eyes, and forced a smile on her face.
“Hey
yourself,” she said as she turned toward the voice. She saw a human male, dressed
in black leather and a green vest, sitting on a boulder along the beach. Behind
him stood a very tall, muscular draenei man with his arms crossed and the most
serious look on his face.
“Come
on over here, sexy. Let me have a look at you.”
Brisa
muttered behind that fake smile and walked toward him. She knew exactly what he
was going to do: point out the dress.
“That
dress looks amazing on you.”
She
stood with one hand on her hip and she fluttered her eyelashes. She knew he was
mocking her, but she continued to stand strong. “This old thing? Psh, thank
you, sweetheart.”
“And
it’ll look just as amazing off, I’m sure.”
She
tried so hard to maintain her smile. That line was so boring, annoying, and one
of her least favorite. “Oh, you charming prince. You always know what to say to
a lost lady, don’t you?”
“Come
on over to my ship and I’ll make sure you find your way to my bed,” he said,
winking at her.
“I
think I’ll find my own place to sleep tonight, but if you’re willing another
night, you can come onboard my ship and we can come up with something.”
The
man stood and shook his head. “Alright, enough bullshit. What did you find
out?”
Brisa
dropped the bright smile and stared at the man. He looked a bit older than
Wolf, with his dark hair and rugged facial hair, but she knew that because of
the elf years, Wolf was older. This one had blue eyes, but they didn’t have the
soft elf glow that Wolf had.
“Well?
I did pay you for this, didn’t I?”
“What?”
Brisa asked. “Are you expecting me to suck your dick too?”
“Thanks
for offering, sexy, but like you said, not tonight. However, you’re still a
whore, whether you suck me or not, and I did pay for a service, so tell me now
before shit gets real here.”
Brisa
smiled once more, stared into his bright eyes, “What would you like to know,
Jako?”
“Did
you find him? Where is he?”
“I
found him,” she said, “but it was brief, at an angler village.”
“At
an angler village. You want me to believe that the infamous Captain Seawolf –“
“Wolfblood.”
“Whatever!
That he is an angler? Brisa, sweetie, please. That no-good, lazy, coward of a
pirate isn’t capable of doing anything worthwhile. That he continues to control
certain waters is beyond me!” He threw his arms up in the air and began to
laugh. He turned back and looked
at the draenei. “You hear that, Ammar? The Captain fishes!” He continued to
laugh, but the draenei didn’t move at all.
Brisa
sighed and hugged the clothes in her hand. She couldn’t wait to get out of the
dress she had on and into something she was more comfortable in. She turned to
look behind her and when she turned back, Jako was in her face. He grabbed her by
the neck and spoke close to her. “Do you think I’m stupid, Brisa? Now, I know
that you’re faithful to that lousy excuse for a pirate, but I paid you and that
means that you owe me services. So, you either tell me what you know, or Ammar
here is going to make sure I get my money back? Understood?”
Struggling
to breathe, Brisa nodded quickly and Jako dropped her onto the sand. She
coughed a few times and rubbed her neck. Her clothes were lying on the ground
and she quickly tugged cloth over the dagger’s blade, which she was trying to
hide from him. “He really was at
the angler village. His crew is with him.” She smiled up at him, “All of them.
I see you only have your lug with you. You want to confront the Captain? Go
right ahead.” She bent to pick up her clothes and rose, staring at Jako.
“Satisfied, Jako?”
The
human stared at her and swung his arm, slapping her face with the back of his
hand and sending her back down to the sand. “Yeah, now I am. Not as climactic.
You’re losing your touch, Brisa, but we can fix that later.” He turned around
and began to walk away. Pulling the dagger from under her clothes, Brisa threw
the dagger at Jako, but the Ammar ran in front of Jako and grabbed the dagger
with his hands. Jako turned around and saw his bodyguard kneeling on the
ground, holding the dagger. “Really, Brisa? After my business?”
“Fuck
you, Jako.”
“Oh
we will. I’ll go find that little ship of yours later in the week and we’ll try
this little friendship of ours again, hm? Until then, you better leave that
lovely ass of yours on the sand there until I’m gone, do you understand?” He
walked away and Brisa didn’t dare look at him, sitting still and watching
everything start dimming around her as darkness began to fall. Her hand rubbed
her sore cheek and she gasped as her dagger flew into the sand beside her hand,
missing her by a few grains of sand. Brisa threw herself onto the sand and took
a deep breath, staring up at the stars that were starting to fill the night
sky. In a few moments, she would continue searching for shelter, but for now,
the solitude was quite welcome.
