27. Morning After

Having retuned to Silvermoon, Cris meets Rain's brother, Dorini, who is a mental mess. He yells at Rain and tells her that he wants nothing to do with her. Feeling that everyone was leaving her life, Rain makes a desperate attempt to claim Cris, even if it means being intimate with him, a difficult feat due to her past. This is the morning after, from Cristianno's point of view.

The day’s first rays touched his face softly, and he stirred, his eyes opening and noticing the woman beside him. Her smile made his heart stop briefly before he pulled her close to him, kissing her forehead. Cris couldn’t help but recall the night before, particularly her determination, as if there was no more fear within her. He wasn’t going to question her if she was eager to be with him and he more than welcomed her touch, her kisses, her embrace, and of course, her body.
He wasn’t as rough as he usually was with his lovers, but rather gentle and allowed her to do as she wished. However, he enjoyed his time with her and deep inside, he was satisfied and at ease. It was as if the relationship was sealed; nothing could ever end them. That frightened Cris a little.
You better have had me in mind when we fucked…
I loved you Cris, but you had to sleep with a whore…
She is Lady Rosaelynn Ranthiel, wife of Lord Magister Aellian Ranthiel…
As much as he loved Rain and as much as he tried to lead a straight life, he kept thinking of his lust that has gotten him in trouble in the pat, the loss of the one he had devoted his life to, the need to kill in order to live…
And yet, her smile eased his worries.  She was his life now and he was going to try his hardest to make sure nothing took her away from him. Not this time. Not ever.
“Morning, beautiful,” he whispered at her, smiling as she nodded to him. The morning felt right and all was at peace in his world.  He looked into her eyes and realized the severity of what their first night together meant.
Damned be the man or woman who dared come between Cris and Rain.
