35. Rage and Despair

Cristianno receives a note from a mysterious stranger while in Stormwind and he finds out some very disturbing news.

Ziggly watched closely as the pair of curious looking … things, left the ship. Soon after, he noticed the captain running down and onto the dock, cursing in every single language he knew. “Where is she?” he screamed. The goblin watched closely before he turned back to one of the crew.
“Where the fuck is that girl?”
            “She walked away earlier today.”
Ziggly kicked the railing on the ship. “Fucking shit! Are you fucking kidding me? Where’s Laerchel?” He searched by gazing up at the crewmembers that were now surrounding him. “Laerchel!”
The elf walked up from the galley with an apple in her hand when she looked at the goblin. “What?”
            “Where’s that wench?”
“Rain? She’s…” She looked around and noticed that she was nowhere to be found. “Fuck!” She dropped the apple, her eyes widened.
The goblin grabbed his ears and ran to the edge of the ship. “He’s fucking pissed. I’d move away if I were you, assholes.” The men and women scattered away as Cris stormed onto the ship. He glared at all of them, his eyes stopping at Laerchel.
“Wasn’t it your fucking job to watch her?”
“I didn’t see her leave the fucking ship!”
Cris walked toward her, his face furious. His hand gripped at her face, squeezing tightly as he stared at her coldly. “You didn’t see her? Your fucking job was to see her and only her!”
With eyes widened, she simply stared at him, but she reached for his wrist and kicked him away, twisting his wrist. “It wasn’t my fucking fault, Wolf!” Cris did not hesitate to reach for her other hand and he twisted her wrist at well, forcing her to grunt in pain, but she turned to look at him, her blonde hair draped over her shoulders. “And besides, I told you not to bring her, didn’t I? I said it was a bad idea! Didn’t I? Didn’t I!” Cris narrowed his eyes and pulled at her arm, dodging her kicking.
“Talk back to me again, Laer and I’ll pop your fucking arm out.”
“Do it and I’ll cut your balls off!”
“What the fuck happened, Wolf?” Ziggly shouted, moving between both elves, trying to push them apart. Cris and Laerchel stared at each other for a few moments longer before letting go.
“She’s fucking gone.” Cris reached into his pockets and threw the crumpled letter at Ziggly. The goblin reached down and opened the letter, his eyes scanning it slowly.

Cristianno,
Someone found me today.  Someone from Silvermoon.  It is a friend, but someone hired them to kill me.  He is taking me somewhere safe, he says he has associates that won't hesitate to follow through.  The danger is only for me, so long as I am not near you.  Be well my love, and know I think of you always.  Once this business is rectified, we will be together again.  He says I should not tell you where I am, as it will be safer for you.
Rain

“Fucking wench. I knew that bitch was trouble Wolf!
“Just…shut the fuck up.” Cris began to pace, his eyes focusing on the wooden planks below his feet as he began to think.
“No, you shut the fuck up! This is Kahlen all over again! She’s going to get you killed!”
Cris turned and glared at Ziggly, “I said shut the fuck up!” He paced a few more times before he stopped. “Make yourself useful, fucker. Take the humans and tell Jarel that I have to go now. I’ll take whatever he has. Go.” The goblin grumbled and pointed at the men, who began to follow him off the ship. “And you better get back here quick or you’re swimming back, you hear me?”
Laerchel leaned against the cabin, still rubbing her wrist. She watched Cris silently, her eyes narrowed with anger. “Get everything packed up! Horde, get caught and I’ll turn you in myself! Get working! We’re leaving as soon as the crates are onboard.” Cris looked at Laerchel as he reached for the cabin door.
            “It wasn’t my fucking fault.”
Cris stopped and glared at her. “You’re lucky I like you, or you would have been at the bottom of the fucking bay by now.”
As he was entering, he heard her chuckle, “You don’t have the balls to do that.” He slammed the door. Her belongings were still in near the bed and her scent lingered around him. He made a fist and crashed it against the desk, “Where are you?” He swung against the desk again, this time, hearing a crack, but unsure if it came from his knuckles or the desk. “I told you not to leave…” He swung once more, leaving blood on the wooden surface. He looked at his bloody and bruised fist and continued to kick the desk. With a deep breath, he shoved everything off the surface and screamed furiously.
Cris walked to the door and emerged back outside the cabin, observing as the men and women continued to prepare to set sail. He walked up to the wheel and looked at the dwarven navigator. “We’re heading to Booty Bay. Maybe someone has heard something.” The dwarf nodded and pulled out his chart. “Make it as quickly as possible.”
“We’ll go as fast as she’ll go, Capt’n.”
“Then you better make sure it’s the shortest route.” The dwarf nodded rather quickly and turned to his chart. Cris ran his hands through his hair and walked back to the main deck, pacing back and forth, the blood on his fist crusting over as he opened and closed his hand to ease the pain.
“Wot clues ‘ave we got, Capt’n?” Gerty, the dwarven woman asked, cautiously keeping her distance from the angered elf.
“None. We have no fucking clues.”
“Then…how are we gonna…”
“I don’t know, Gerty! Don’t you have work to do?”
The dwarf sighed and walked below deck, mumbling, “…it’s not like anyone’s gonna eat anyway.”
Cris paced about once again, looking up when he heard someone shout, “We’re set to sail, captain.” He looked at his pocket watch and nodded.
“Go.”
The crew hesitated a bit before rushing to their posts. Cris reached into his pocket and pulled out his telescope, watching a small wheelbarrow being pushed by a human and the other two running behind him. They rolled up the ramp and onto the ship. Ziggly jumped off the cargo, “He said he didn’t have the one for Booty Bay ready.”
“I don’t fucking care. Put them below deck. Let’s get the fuck out of here.” As the ship sailed away from Stormwind, certain ease fell over Cris for a brief moment. He knew he was going to find her, but he didn’t know where to start. His reverie was brought to an end when he heard bickering between several crewmembers.
“I agree with Ziggly! The Captain is losing his fucking mind!”
“I didn’t fucking say that, asshole! I said that wench is going to drive him mad!” Ziggly shouted at the human.
“Don’t deny it, bitch. We should take on a new captain before this one kills us all!”
Cris walked toward them, his steps soft, and his eyes curiously staring at them in disbelief. “Mutiny?” His voice carried over to them and they quickly scattered, except for Ziggly and the human, who was now looking at Cris.
Ziggly rolled his eyes and lifted his arms, “He’s all yours, Wolf.” He stepped away and left the human there alone. The human glared at Cristianno and didn’t back down.
“I think we deserve someone else, yes.”
“I see.” Cris nodded and rubbed his goatee. “Alright then.” He bowed at the human, reaching into his boot, and walked away toward steps leading up the quarterdeck. The crew stared at him with widened eyes, except for Ziggly, who simply lifted an eyebrow, and Laerchel, who only watched on with curiosity.
“Then get off my ship, fucker.” Cris had stopped halfway up the steps and now had his pistol pointed straight at the man. The silence was broken with a single booming sound. The human’s eyes were widened and he didn’t gasp a sound as he fell back, blood now spurting from the hole on his forehead. The crew stepped away and Ziggly smirked wickedly. With his gun still pointed outward, he walked toward the body, his eyes catching the little light lifting from the corpse; the soul. He knew no one else could see it, so he put one foot on top of the dead human and as the soul rose, it went straight to his shark tooth. The brief moment when he gasped was enough for Ziggly and Laerchel to know what he had done. The rest of the crew simply watched with fear.
“Now, anyone else want to try and be captain here?” He pointed the pistol at every single crewmember, this time, including Ziggly and Laerchel. A chorus of no’s and shaking heads made him lower his gun. He kicked the body and growled, “Get rid of this deadweight and get back to work.”
As he walked toward his cabin, Ziggly passed by and simply said with a smile, “About damn time you became a fucking pirate.”
Cris glared at him but didn’t say a word as he walked in. Laerchel followed behind him and closed the door. “Laer, not now.”
“Cris, you need to calm down. Hopefully, we’ll find her.”
“I don’t know where she is! Where the fuck do I even begin?”
“But you can’t go about pouting and killing your damn men! It’ll just be the four of us left if you keep that up!”
“The four of us?”
“You ain’t killing Gerty.”
“This isn’t the time for jokes.”
“Well it sure isn’t fucking time to be an asshole either, is it?”
Cris sighed and sat along the edge of his bed, burying his head in his hands. Laerchel crawled onto his bed and leaned against the wall, pulling him back toward her into his arms, which he didn’t hesitate at all. He curled up within her embrace and leaning his head against her chest. Laerchel looked up and sighed, running her hands through his hair.
“I failed her, Laer.”
“No, you didn’t. She snuck off.” Laerchel looks down to see his face. There were no tears, but she didn’t like the look of defeat he already had carved onto his features. “I don’t think she’s dead yet. Maybe there’s a ransom, or…I don’t know, something. But hopefully we’ll find her, eventually.”
His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at her, speaking softly, “And if we don’t?” The thought drove him mad, his body trembling as he growled softly. “I swear, Laerchel, I will destroy everyone in my way if she’s hurt in any way.”
She flinched a bit and turned her gaze away from his dagger-filled eyes. “Then, I don’t really know what then, Cris.” Her thoughts played images of her past and she doubted Rain would end up as she did. “She’s not a moron. Surely she’ll find her way to…somewhere, even if we don’t find her first.”
Another sigh and a nod of his head revealed an eased captain. He reached up and kissed the corner of her lips, softly saying, “Thanks, Laer.” Gently, he pushed himself away from her embrace and walked toward his desk. Laerchel sat back and curled her knees to her chest, curiously watching his actions. He took out his pocket watch and used a small key that was attached to the watch to open a drawer. Within it were a few items, amongst them a pair of reading glasses, a small glass box with a rose, and two rings. One of them was in the shape of a wolf’s head, a gift he had once given Kahlen and she had thrown back at him when she found out of his infidelity. The other ring was something he was working on lately.
“I know we said no… m word,” he said, gazing at the silver ring with a sea-green gem. Laerchel rolled her eyes but remained silent. “But, I wanted her to have something to show the world that she was mine.” He locked the drawer and placed the pocket watch back in his pocket. He stared at the ring in his hand and stepped from behind his desk. Without glancing at Laerchel, he walked out of the cabin. She quickly followed and saw him toward the bow of the ship. Giving him privacy, she stayed away, accompanied by Ziggly.
Cris looked at the ring in his hand once more. “I swore to protect you and I failed,” he whispered to himself, his hair blowing in the sea-salt air. “I’ll find you, Rain. And if I have to kill to get you back, so be it.” He closed his eyes, gripped the ring tightly and swinging his arm back, he flung the ring out into the air. It fell into the hungry ocean, devouring the small trinket and pulling it deep into the depths of its watery oblivion.
