6. Daring Steps in Stormwind

Cris and the crew land in Stormwind City, the city of humans and not the best place for members of the Horde. Cris, being able to pass as a high elf, manages to infiltrate the city and look for work. After making a shady deal with a local dark tavern to deliver meat pies to the Horde cities, Cris and his hidden companion simply linger around town.

The Park was calm and quiet as the evening rolled throughout Stormwind. The glances he was getting were ridiculous to him, but he knew how to defend himself if anyone approached him. He looked Sin’Dorei, but his eyes had a hint of blue in them and his Common was quite fluent, there really wasn’t any reason to approach him, except for those prejudiced humans who may want to find a way to attack at the first chance they got. Cristianno didn’t care. He walked with one hand on his dagger and the other holding a rather bulky brown bag.

The fair-skinned elf noticed an unoccupied tree and sat beneath it, dropping the bag down beside him. A muffled squeal came from the bag. Cris leaned his head back against the tree as a few green fingers popped out of the bag’s top opening. Ziggly the goblin stuck his head out of the bag and looked around nervously as Cris lit a cigarette.

“Are you kidding me, Cris?!”

“What? I want a break.”

The goblin reached out and smacked Cris on the shoulder with his green fist. “You’re sitting here, smoking in the middle of Stormwind?”

“Technically it’s off to the side. This is the Park. The middle would probably be the Cathedral or the town square. Man, I wish I had more time to visit this town.”

“We need to go!” the goblin squealed. He snapped his head from side to side; his eyes wide open, watching for any unusual activity.

“I remember running here and meeting different girls. They were sweet, giggly things.” He looked at the moonwell and chuckled. “At night, girls do all sort of…things in there.” He took a hit of his cigarette and exhaled slowly, smoke rising through is wide grin.  A soft sigh followed as he shook his head, recollecting the memories of his past in Stormwind.

“Cris…I’m glad you got your walk down this memory lane, but we need to get out of here…”

“What’s the hurry, Zig?”

“The guards are coming.”

Cris leaned forward and noticed two guards who rushed into the Park. “Zig, you’re not into magic stuff, right?”

“No?”

“Good. Hold your breath.” In a sweeping motion, Cristianno jumped to his feet, picked up the backpack and sprinted toward the moonwell in the center of the Park.

“Hold my what?!” Ziggly managed to say his few words before Cris jumped into the moonwell, submerging himself completely with the bag. He waited a few seconds before lifting his head out of the waters and looking around. They had left. Cris smirked and jumped out of the moonwell. He placed the backpack on the ground and the goblin stuck his head out, gasping for air.

“Asshole.”

“But this asshole saved your life. Come on, we need to head back to the ship.” Cris walked casually through the streets of Stormwind, with his heavy bag slung over his shoulder. He was dripping wet as he headed toward the harbor. His pace picked up as he saw the Port Authority commander staring at his ship.

“Sir! My good sir! That’s my ship and we were just leaving.” He placed a small bag of coins in the human’s hand.

The human looked at Cris, just as shocked as everyone else who had seen him and said, “And who, sir, are you?”

“Does the name D’Avros mean anything to a fine gentleman like yourself?”

The human’s eyes widened and smiled. “D’Avros? Really? You’re his son?”

Cris bowed gently, dropping the bag to the floor, a yelp following shortly. “In the flesh. I knew you looked familiar sir. I hope my ship wasn’t an inconvenience.”

“Your father was a good man. I can bypass a few inconveniences.”

“Excellent, my friend. I will let you know when I return to harbor then.” The human nodded as Cris looked beyond him, noticing guards running into the harbor. “And with that, my good man, I must depart!” He bowed again and lifted the bag once more and he took a few steps back and ran toward his ship.

A blonde elf peeked over the side of the ship and shouted in Orcish, “The Captain is coming!” Soon the crew began to move about the ship, preparing to sail, but it was her voice that caught the guards’ attention. They noticed the enemy blood elf and ran toward the ship.

“Nice one, Laerchel,” grumbled Cris as he dropped the bag on deck. Ziggly crawled out of the bag and grumbled as he held his head.

“Hey, we were tired of hiding.”

“Sail away, men…and Laerchel.” Cris stood at the edge and waved at the Port Authority commander. The guard approached the commander and Cris smiled and bowed. “Captain Seawolf! Remember that! The moment my lovely ship, the Dark R--” He stopped as Laerchel stood behind him and smacked him over the head.

“What the fuck, Laer?”

“Sure, just tell everyone who you are and what ship you own. Maybe your wanted posters will start popping up everywhere. I’m sure Kahlen will appreciate being with a wanted man.”

Cris looked at his friend and smiled, “Fine, fine.” He turned back as the docks started getting farther and father away. After waving once more, he ran up to the upper deck and grabbed a hold of the wooden wheel.

He looked forward to going home, to seeing Kahlen and holding her once more. He was excited about the connections he made during his trip to Stormwind and those he reconnected with in Booty Bay. His business would definitely boom if he played his cards right and aside from dodging trouble, he was definitely excited about his life ahead.
