29. Nightmare

Cris and Kahlen ran into each other in Silvermoon and after all chaos broke loose between both of them, Rain, Kahlen's father, and his cronies. The outcome was disastrous, thus leading to a sleepless night.

The night fell over him in a blink of an eye and he walked along the shore, toward the edge of the sea that crept ever so softly upon the sand. He saw her there: blonde, built, yet delicate, and ever so beautiful. The moon’s light reflected her, making her appear as an ivory doll and when she turned to look at him, her eyes were bright and vibrant.
“I’ve been expecting you, Cris,” she said, her voice carrying toward him along the gentle breeze that the sea carried onto shore.  She wore a sheer ivory dress, accentuating her features and revealing more than he had expected of a noble lady.
“Thank you for dinner, Kahlen. I hope there are no hard feelings between us.”
“Of course not, Cris.” Kahlen took a slice of toast and buttered it slowly as Cris sat beside her along the shore. She offered him the bread and smiled, leaning forward. “We’re mature adults, right? I mean, you were right; I was being childish. I should have never left you, Cris.”
“Well, that’s in the past now. I’m glad we can be friends.”
“Oh, no, we can’t be friends, Cris.”
Cristianno narrowed his eyes and glared at her, “Why, because your daddy dearest won’t allow it?” In a swift movement, Kahlen leapt at him, like a banshee, knocking him onto the ground and straddling his body.
“Because you’re mine, pirate.” Her smile turned into mouthful of razor sharp fangs as her claws pulled up her dress around her waist. “That mute bitch thinks she has you around her little finger, but you’re mine, Cris. I claim you.”
“Wait! Kahlen, stop! You can’t do this!”
“Oh I can and I will! I always get what I want!”
“No! Stop being so spoiled and grow up!”
A gush of wind by passed them and they both turned to see a shadow figure standing beside them. With eyes wide open, Cris extended his hand out to the shadow. “Rain! Wait! It’s not my fault!”
The dark voice that accompanied this creature chuckled and stared only at the beast Kahlen was becoming. “I don’t blame you, Cristianno. I will never blame you.” As her last word echoed around them, the shadow charged Kahlen, both females clawing and attacking at each other. Cris quickly jumped up and tried to interfere, but the dark Rain cast a barrier between him and the women, shooting him back onto the sand and inflicting pain in him.
“Stay away from the magic, Cristianno,” he heard Rain say, but it was his mother’s voice instead of the shadow creature.
Seeking an escape, he noticed that the sea was the only place he felt safe at, so he began to run and he soon realized that his feet were not getting wet at all. In fact, he was walking on thin sheets of ice. It was then that he heard Kahlen’s shrill voice wail out the single word that froze Cris in place, “DADDY!” The sea began to rumble and out from the water emerged a giant death knight, his icy blue eyes glaring down at him.
“Why won’t you stay dead, pirate?” His voice cause the waves to grow and throw Cris back onto the shore. Cris began to curse the death knight, who was now normal size and walking toward the shore with his runeblade drawn and a rabid desire for blood on his face.
“Wait, Daddy! Cris needs to feed!” Kahlen stomped a foot between Cris’ legs and showed him a silverplatter. “Someone wants to say hi, Cris.” She lifted the cover and Cris’ head rested on the platter. The head opened his black eyes and smiled at Cris.
“Kill, Cris. I need more souls. Just kill.”  A black shadow emerged from the large shark tooth and caressed Cris’ face, a touch familiar to him. Rain.
At the sight of the touch, he heard Kahlen’s banshee scream, rumbling the entire shore line, “I hope you get lost at sea, Cris!”
“Enough with this foolery! You all waste my time!” Baalian the death knight swung his sword, beheading Kahlen, Shadow Rain, and as it reached closer to him, Cris closed his eyes, whispering, “Leave me alone…”

“Leave me alone…” He opened his eyes as he finished his sentence and sat up in bed in a jolt. Sweat drenched his forehead and his heart beat so hard, he could feel his chest moving. His hand moved up his chest slowly, reaching for the first shark tooth he could feel.  He was awake and terrified. Looking down beside him, he noticed Rain’s eyes open and staring at him. She sat up and reached for his chin, looking into his eyes, pleading.
“It’s…it’s nothing, love. Go…go back to sleep,” but he knew that she wouldn’t move until he was at ease. Wiping the excess sweat off his face, he slid back down to the pillow, a gesture that Rain mimicked. His mind was racing, remembering the argument earlier, unable to control the situation, and watching Rain turn into that shadow thing he was slowly coming to fear. His body turned toward her, she offering him a gentle smile as she caressed his hair.
“Hold me, Rain. I’m losing my mind.” Just as a child, Cris curled up against Rain, his head against her chest, and closing his eyes tightly shut as she embraced him, her arms protectively around him.
He was at ease for the time being, but he longed to leave Silvermoon. It was a place of dread, of painful memories, and it was already a given that no matter what the situation was, Cris would always get hurt in Silvermoon.
